Frankadua is a town with a population of around 5,000 people around 3 hours drive north of Ghana's capital, Accra. The town has little facilities that we have become accustomed to in the western worlds. It is probably best described as a shanty town but the Frankaduan locals are keen to improve their situation. It is a friendly town with some great people who are actively looking at ways to improve the area and the livelihood of the townspeople.
Project Agbe Completion: Bringing Clean Water to Frankadua, Ghana
We are thrilled to announce the successful completion of Project Agbe, a pivotal initiative aimed at providing sustainable access to clean drinking water in Frankadua, Ghana. This project marks a significant milestone in our ongoing commitment to enhancing the quality of life for communities through vital infrastructure improvements.
Project Overview
Project Agbe was launched with the goal of addressing the critical need for clean, safe drinking water in Frankadua, a community that has long faced challenges with water scarcity and quality. The project involved extensive planning and collaboration with local leaders and stakeholders to ensure that the solutions provided were sustainable and tailored to the specific needs of the community.
Achievements
The core achievement of Project Agbe was the successful drilling of a borehole to a depth of 140 meters, where we found a sustainable aquifer. This substantial depth ensures a consistent supply of water that is naturally protected from surface contaminants, providing a reliable water source throughout the year.
Following the drilling, the water undergoes a rigorous purification process to ensure it meets health and safety standards, transforming it into potable water that is safe for drinking and cooking. This process is crucial for preventing waterborne diseases, which are a common challenge in regions without access to treated water.
To facilitate the storage and distribution of the purified water, we constructed a robust concrete platform that supports a 3000-litre polytank. This setup not only secures the water supply but also makes it accessible to the residents of Frankadua. The elevated platform ensures that the water pressure is sufficient to distribute the water effectively.
Impact
The completion of Project Agbe has a profound impact on the daily lives of the people in Frankadua. Residents now have immediate access to safe drinking water, significantly reducing the time and effort previously spent on fetching water from distant and often contaminated sources. This improvement has a ripple effect on the community’s health, education, and economic activities, as it frees up time for productive endeavors and reduces health-related absences from work and school. It is of particular benefit to the children of Retca School Complex, who now have a clean water facility at their school.
Moving Forward
With Project Agbe now complete, we are committed to monitoring the impact and sustainability of the project, ensuring that the community of Frankadua continues to benefit from these improvements over the long term. We are also exploring similar projects in other regions, aiming to replicate this success and bring essential services to more communities in need.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to all the donors, partners, and community members whose support and dedication made Project Agbe a reality. Together, we are making a tangible difference in the lives of many, fostering a healthier, more prosperous future for communities across Ghana.
